Have you returned from a tour and thought, 'if only I had more time in the local region!' Or have you planned your own itinerary, only to find you packed in too much and missed the local highlights? An organised group tour is always a balancing act between taking you to see plenty of regions and sites, as well as ensuring you have enough time to enjoy them - however after 24 years, at Back-Roads we believe we have got this just about right!
You will notice our itineraries to cover a smaller area within a country with more of a regional focus. Europe is deceptively large and our travel style is to take you away from the motorways and through the backroads with regular stops en route. These are planned to ensure you gain a genuine cultural experience and some wonderful unique moments - maybe this will be a fantastic local meal, a delicious wine, spontaneous sing-a-long in a local pub or discovering a local farmers market. When you travel with Back-Roads there is opportunity for some flexibility in the itinerary for you to be able to enjoy these experiences as part of your tour. Of course we have to keep to a schedule, however, it is certainly not as hurried a touring experience as a large coach tour.
