The landscape of rolling hills, towering peaks and plummeting waterfalls together with medieval castles, deep mines, roads old and new and ground-breaking modern architecture all reflect a history of the conquest, exploitation yet amazing resurgence of an indomitable people. Back-Roads will take you on a spectacular journey through this mystical land where you will discover its unique Celtic heritage, delicious local food and awe-inspiring vistas. It may be a small country, however, it's landscape is incredibly varied – with 3 National Parks, 5 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, 43 blue flag beaches, 641 castles, 11 million sheep and 2 languages. The distinct Celtic heritage continues to defy the Welsh culture giving them a strong sense of national pride and self-belief. Expect to receive a warm 'Croeso' as you explore its more remote areas along the country lanes - as only a Back-Roads tour can!

The Red Dragon of Wales
Louise Love, CanadaI have many wonderful memories of Brian’s excellent guiding, commentary and driving. His flexibility in our day-to-day schedule was also appreciated. My trip down the pit mine was a poignant experience for me especially since the recent rescue of the 33 Chilean miners. Our tour gave me a very tiny idea of the nightmare experience they must have suffered for 69 days. I enjoyed Back-Roads Touring Co. so much that my husband and I have booked a Back-Roads Tour of Italy for next spring. Once, again Brian thank-you for taking such wonderful care of us all.
The Red Dragon of Wales
Cheryl Neff, USAI just got back from the Oct. 5 2010 tour of Wales with Brian Turner and wanted you to know how much I enjoyed it. We had a great group of 11, made some wonderful stops (not all of which were on your itinerary!), and stayed at some marvellous locations -- especially the luxury estate near Brecon. I picked your company because of the "B" roads travel (roads I drove when visiting Britain 30 years ago but have no wish to navigate on my own now.) This was my second trip this year with your group and I'm looking forward to your offerings for 2011. Great job!
The Red Dragon of Wales
David & Donna Ankrett, CanadaI would like to offer some comments on our recent 5 night Red Dragon Tour with Back-Roads Touring (Oct 2010). The tour exceeded our expectations which were high. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and the tour bus comfortable. The itinerary was very comprehensive. Most hotels were comfortable and the meals satisfactory. The Lion Hotel in Shrewsbury was in a wonderful location.
At one point we had to detour because of a road closure and happened on a delightful pub.
Though we arrived unannounced we all had an excellent lunch. The name was, The Druid Inn, Goginan, Ceredigion, NR. Aberystwyth
This was our second Back Roads Tour and we thoroughly endorse this tour philosophy.
