Celebrating 20 years of providing independent travel for small groups

New USA Great War Battlefield Tour

The year 2007 will mark the 90th Anniversary of American entry into the Great War, the one that promised to be the one to end all wars. By its end, just over a year later, the USA had suffered 360,00 casualties, with 126,00 of those dead. Most Americans have forgotten this war, perhaps unsurprisingly given the contemporary pain of Iraq.

Back-Roads Touring Co. Ltd have introduced a new tour to their range of battlefield tours, covering the most important American battle sites and monuments of this mammoth conflagration.

The tour, that departs from London, features sites such as Belleau Wood, Chateau Thierry, Saint-Milhiel and battle sites through the region of Meuse-Argonne. A large number of trenchs, bunkers and military installations, in addition to museums, still remain to be seen half-hidden in woods and fields. Also featured are the magnificent neo-classical monuments and memorials such as those commemorating the US 35th Division, the men of Missouri, the 315th Infantry Division memorial, and the American Memorial at the Butte de Montfaucon.

Tour participants will also visit sites associated with named citizens such as President's son, Quentin Roosevelt, and folk hero and medal winner, Sargent York.

The great French-German killing ground of Verdun is included as part of this five day tour which has an all-inclusive land cost of US$990.
Back-Roads Touring Co. Ltd carry a maximum of twelve persons per tour and each is lead by a specialist battlefield historian.
